“message in a cookie” cookie cutters from williams-sonoma

you can make cookies with letters and messages stamped into them.

did you know that? yes, you can. i did. i used this:

Williams-Sonoma “Message in a Cookie” Cookie Cutters.

so when you open the box, these things fall out:

clockwise from paper: sugar cookie recipe, stencil letters, star cutter, fluted rectangle cutter, and heart cutter

one thing: these cookie cutters are really, really big.

you’re not going to get a lot of cookies out of one batch.

they have to be big to fit on the letters, but they’re maybe a bit too large.

now, the way that the cutters work is this.

included in the set are 3 alphabet sets, extra more-common letters like e, a, i, t, etc,

and some pre-made phrases like “thank you” and “i love you”.

there’s also a dishwasher-safe bag for the letters.

my verdict is: it’s a very cute idea, and the results are satisfactory,

but there could be improvements.

for instance, it’s really hard having to press down on the lever (mechanism? button?)

while trying to fit the letters into the slots.

and sometimes, when you have too many letters, they’re prone to falling out.

so some improvements could be a “lock” mechanism for the lever (mechanism? button?)

and some way of making the letters easier to lock into the slots.

you can probably find it at williams-sonoma (this was purchased in canada)

or online at the williams-sonoma shop. you can view it here.

So that was my first product review. No company asked me to do this; I received this as a personal gift from a friend. Any suggestions on how I can improve on this review?

I love this!!! What other messages did they come with?

I’m not sure I would go through the trouble myself to switch out the letters and what not. I think I’d write on a cookie with frosting.

    I like the idea though.

    • midna.loves.cheese October 22, 2010 10:59 am #

They came with things like: I love you, happy, holidays, birthday, thank you, etc etc. It’s actually a lot of fun! And I agree with you – it’s quite a lot of trouble but the idea is nice.

I think you did a really great job with the review! I would love to see some more of the cookies you baked though! :-)

    • midna.loves.cheese October 22, 2010 10:36 am #

Thank you! I made some yesterday for charity but I forgot to take photos :(

I love Williams Sonoma so much! These are great! I’ve never seen them or heard about them before!

    • midna.loves.cheese October 23, 2010 11:42 am #

      I know. I know. :D I’m really sad there’s no Williams-Sonoma in China. :(

What a cute idea, seems a little tedious, but is perfect so someone knows you put some time, and it’s not something you see everyday, at least not something you see handmade. :)

    • midna.loves.cheese October 27, 2010 9:37 am #

It is tedious, but I guess they would be really nice to give out as party favours. It definitely isn’t something you see everyday! It doesn’t quite have the pretty effect of frosted cookies though.

Oh weiwei, thank you for your lovely comments on my bloggie all the time. I’m always here at yours reading through but I don’t always comment. I hope you’re having a wonderful school year. How is everything going? How are your classes holding up? These cookies are adorable, I would buy some if I made cookies that allowed for those type of things haha…because the only cookies I actually know how to make decently are oatmeal raisin / chocolate chip :P

    • midna.loves.cheese October 27, 2010 4:36 pm #

I was missing you! You should write more often. I really hope you’re doing well, too! Oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies are good too. I sometimes think that cookies like these don’t actually turn out that yummy; they’re just pretty to look at.

These cutters are so adorable! I would imagine that it is time consuming to create your own message with the individual letters, but the result is worth it.

    • midna.loves.cheese October 28, 2010 9:01 am #

Yup, the result is definitely worth it, I think. And if you’re making them for party favours or in mass quantity, you actually only have to put the letters on once, so it’s not THAT tedious. :D

    These are so adorable!

    • midna.loves.cheese October 30, 2010 10:38 am #

Yes, they are! Thank you for dropping by :)

  11. Amanda October 30, 2010 1:43 am #

I think I have to go to William Sonoma and buy those right now! That is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

    • midna.loves.cheese October 30, 2010 10:40 am #

I’m so jealous that you’re able to say that. There’s no Williams-Sonoma in China – but if there was, I’d be broke. All the time.

  12. Annie October 31, 2010 9:04 am #

Great review! Right on point :D
I think it is such a cute idea. Not something I would use a lot, but it would be fun to use from time to time.

    • midna.loves.cheese October 31, 2010 11:21 am #

Thanks! I definitely agree with you on that… it’s something fun that’s good to break out once in a while. :)

You were right about lady gaga!! The makeup was based on one of her looks! I found a Michelle Phan video on youtube for how to do lady gaga makeup and that is how I looked like a furby! Props to you for recognizing it!!

    • midna.loves.cheese November 2, 2010 8:28 am #

I watched that video too! I think you did a great job with the makeup :D
