oh, hullo there.

nice to meet you, stranger.

i’ve been baking s’mores pie.

i’ve been devouring s’mores pie.

Not alone, though. I was with friends. It was my friend's birthday. She likes marshmallows. Same crust as here.

i’ve been making smoked salmon quiche with onions and dill.

Too much onion. The whole thing was way too sweet.

i’ve been making thank you cookies with stencils as a thank you note to the person who gave me the stencils.

Thank you to the family which hosted my sister while she was overseas. They gave me this as a gift.

i’ve been baking white/milk chocolate chunk chocolate cookies. also known as world peace cookies. for charity.

I'm going to rip off middle and elementary schoolers today and sell these cookies for ridiculously high prices. 10 RMB ($1.5) each. And they're small.

i’ve been baking monster cookies to take to friends in beijing as a gift.

Oats + pecans + chocolate chips + marshmallows + SALT. Addictively salty-sweet.

i’ve been in beijing.

In the hutongs of Beijing.

Art is so amazing.

Help Is On The Way

"Resist"

"Mao Zedong thinking”

i’ve been getting ready to review a restaurant in beijing.

Hopefully I can start doing reviews on this blog, too. But sadly this restaurant was meh.

i’ve been…

i’ve been here.

I adore smoked salmon, I bet I would love that quiche.
Those cookies are too cute! I dont know how you got that writing to stay during the baking… perhaps you stamped it after they were done and still hot?
Where was the resist photo taken?? I loved this post.

    • midna.loves.cheese October 11, 2010 5:31 pm #

The writing was stamped on using stencils; the cookie cutters cut the cookies, then you press down with this thing on top that has the little letters (that you can customise) sticking out attached to it, and it literally imprints the cookies. Pretty cool concept, but really fiddly with all the letters…

The resist photo was taken in Beijing 798. You can Google it :)

Welcome back! I’ve missed you!!! Glad to see you’re making magic in the kitchen. Seriously! I am in awe at your creations and Beijing looks so cool! I’ve not been to China and I really want to go visit some time. You know, go back to my roots – or ancestors’ rather, and see what it’s like. Lol. Keep having fun hun!

    XOXO

Thanks Nat! I’ve missed blogging, but the hosting service I use (blog.com) got all weird on me. And suddenly when I posted this, all three of my last posts came through on google reader. Strange. Come to China! Visit me :D

the white sack next to that “help is on the way” box looks like its frowning haha

That smores pie looks delicious~ I was thinking of making a smores cake for my birthday =D

    • midna.loves.cheese October 11, 2010 7:49 pm #

:looks: BAHAHAHHAHAHH IT DOES! I encourage you to make it – beating egg white with sugar is so amusing. It looks like whipped cream, I swear, and I couldn’t stop eating it – it was kinda gross cos it was raw egg white, but I consoled myself with the fact that it contained quality protein. Yup. Mmhmm.

      • domo. October 14, 2010 10:53 pm #

haha i love any deserts with meringue in it~by the way what did you burn the topping with?

        • midna.loves.cheese October 15, 2010 9:39 am #

I just put the pie in my oven and broiled it for a couple minutes. I definitely was watching it like a criminal though. I was SO scared that it was going to burn! I don’t know if I’ve said it before, but my oven is slightly malfunctioning and only the top burner is working, so it’s actually always working as a broiler. Strange.

Wow, you’ve been busy! That quiche looks INSANE. Mmm.

Also, your Beijing photos are gorgeous. Loved this post!

    • midna.loves.cheese October 12, 2010 11:50 am #

I haven’t been THAT busy, but heh… making more stuff in the kitchen without blogging about it. So I do it a little more often. Thanks! (The quiche really wasn’t that good, by the way…)

    WHOA. DUDE.

You eats look awesome. They are SUCH GOOD PHOTOS and that s’more pie looks so professional.

Also, beijing looks amazing. Especially because it’s on the opposite side of the globe as me.

    Chinese symbols are amazing.

    You are so cool.

Also, something is terribly wrong with my google reader because I was subscribed to your blog like ages ago, and I didn’t get your last three posts until today. Sad day.

There’s nothing wrong with your Google Reader – it happened to all of us, I think. And thank you so much! You can’t call me cool because you’re way more amazing than I am. So there. :]

Oh my goodness, Wei-Wei! And you just commented to me that you haven’t been up to much in the kitchen… you rascal! ;)

Smores pie, smoked salmon quiche, cookies with stencils, and cookies for charity… it all sounds so decadent! Absolutely amazing, and I applaud your skills in the kitchen! Truly, I am so impressed.

I’ve been… nowhere exciting. But my boyfriend did come home to me this weekend! So that’s even better. ;)

    • midna.loves.cheese October 12, 2010 11:52 am #

Bahahahah rascal?! It feels like I haven’t been doing anything because I haven’t been blogging about it. But thank you! I feel flattered :D

Oh, that’s nice too. Having a few nice nights in with the boy is always fun. And relaxing. ;)

Cookie stencils!!!!!!!! How have I never heard of these before?? Do you have a recipe for the cookies? Do you know where to get the stencils from? This is blowing my mind!

    • midna.loves.cheese October 12, 2010 11:53 am #

The cookie recipe was a standard sugar cookie recipe; I’m actually going to do a review of the cookie stencils soon! I’m glad that your mind is blown ;)

  8. Pinjing October 12, 2010 2:00 pm #

Looks like someone’s been having fun in the kitchen ;) Everything you made looks delicious, and I’m especially loving those stamped sugar cookies, so adorable. Makes me want to run out and go buy some stencils as well. Glad to see that you’ve been having fun!

    • midna.loves.cheese October 12, 2010 2:55 pm #

Having fun, indeed! I’m definitely going to review the stencils on my blog, so that you guys can find it too. Thanks for visiting, I’ve missed you!

Ah, it’s no life to be jealous of. Things have been busy. And I wish I could blog about it all. But thank you :]

    • midna.loves.cheese October 15, 2010 9:34 am #

I loved Beijing 798! I’m thinking about going to Moganshan Lu sometime soon to go gallery hopping. Hopefully it’ll be just as fun.

Hallo! is it okay for me to link to you as an further resource in my niche? I have a small austrian blog.

    • midna.loves.cheese October 17, 2010 9:48 am #

Yes, that would definitely be okay. I’m flattered! :) Thank you for visiting!

  14. hopeeternal October 17, 2010 8:12 am #

Thanks for visiting my site and trying the Smoked Salmon quiche. I’m sorry that you found it too ‘oniony’. The oniony sweetness one of the things we really like about it! Tastes differ, I suppose. For those who would like it less sweet perhaps using less or some chopped spring onions would be a good idea – or just leave it out completely.

I love the idea of stencilling biscuits: something to try some time …!

To each their own! I’d make the quiche again, though – it was a solid recipe that I definitely would have enjoyed if I cut it down to half an onion. Spring onions sound great, too! Thanks for visiting :)

I have a strange urge to stuff my face with World Peace cookies! Or Monster cookies, for that matter.

    • midna.loves.cheese October 20, 2010 10:08 am #

Your urge is not strange whatsoever.
